Olivier MESSIAEN, 1908-1992, Compositeur français

The one hundredth anniversary of the birth of Olivier Messiaen will be one of the major cultural events in 2008.

The non-profit organization "Messiaen 2008" was created, in agreement with the French foundation Olivier Messiaen, in order to coordinate, prolong and promote the whole series of events that will be dedicated to the composer, as much in France as abroad.

Beyond the performance of Messiaen's works, it's his whole musical, spiritual and poetic universe that will be illustrated. It will in particular draw our attention to the composers from whom he got inspiration (Mozart, Berlioz, Debussy…) and/or the musicians who have been his students/followers. As a matter of fact, Messiaen was a great pedagog. That's why a special collaboration will be proposed to the teaching structures.

This website will be a data carrier, both for a better known of Messiaen's works and for a census of the events envisaged in 2008.
